Position Summary:The Plant Controller is a key member of the corporate accounting. This position will play a key role in supporting both Corporate financial requirements. The Plant Controller is responsible for planning and coordinating plant budget and business planning activities in alignment with corporate policies and practices. The incumbent will provide financial direction to the plant and provide recommendations to improve site performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage related accounting operations in collaboration with corporate accounting to include Billing, G/L, Inventory/Cost Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
Hire, integrate and train new staff to support the plant controller position.
Collaborate with the Sierra general managers, future plant accountants and senior management to explain results, make improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand operations, and lead the development of complex analysis.
Implement and subsequently monitor plant internal controls (in conjunction with corporate policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks.
Develop and update department spending budgets, forecasts, and analysis for operations.
Assist with the balance sheet and income statement flux analysis for management reporting including Inventory accounts, cost of sales and manufacturing operations/engineering spending.
Collaborate with FP&A and other cross-functional departments to ensure completeness of operating expenses.
Work with the Controller and accounting team to create and maintain cost allocation methodologies, along with the classification of expenses as fixed or variable, and inventoriable vs period expense.
Develop financial modeling, dashboards, metrics and ad hoc reporting to support variance analysis, labor productivity, contract negotiations, investment decisions, product pricing and capacity analysis.
Identifies and communicates opportunities for cost reduction, yield improvement, operational efficiency, and business process improvements to support financial results and Fulcrum goals.
Assists with ad hoc assignments from the Controller, CFO, Sierra General Managers or VP of Engineering and Operations, as required.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Manage month-end closing and prepare operational reports for the management team.
Prepare journal entries, as needed, to accurately report gross margin, manufacturing variances and period expense in cost of sales, inventory valuation, inventory reserves and operations spending.
Reconcile general ledger accounts for Gross inventory and inventory reserves monthly to inventory transactions and balances from the detail reporting systems and/or Excel worksheets.
Calculate inventory reserves, full absorption cost and other adjustments at quarter end and year end.
Provides support for quarter end and year end PBC items, as needed.
Support the purchasing team by reviewing and approving requisitions and purchase orders against budgets, capital purchases and coding against the chart of accounts.
Support the corporate accounts payable team during the invoice routing and approval process.
Support Sierra operations with ongoing certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) program.
Participate in system development/upgrades including ERP, cost accounting, labor reporting, payroll, and other financial systems to ensure integration with Operations/cost accounting requirements.
Acts as primary contact with external auditors and accounting regarding inventory close, manufacturing spending and standard cost issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration required.
CPA preferred but cost accounting experience supporting manufacturing operations is required.
10+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, general accounting, and operations finance.
Results driven, detail oriented, and a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Proficient to excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills.
